Individual counselling
Individual counselling in Burnaby & online across BC
You’re allowed to be who you are, right now, not who you’ll be once you fix this.
Tell us what’s going on and we’ll match you with the right person, usually within one business day. No referral needed, and many extended health plans cover sessions.
The bargain that keeps the goal out of reach
So much of individual therapy starts from a hidden bargain: I’ll accept myself once the anxiety is gone, once I’ve healed from what happened, once I finally get it right. That bargain keeps the goal just out of reach, because self-acceptance was never supposed to be the prize at the end.
That’s why our individual work starts somewhere else. Accepting yourself isn’t approving of everything you do, and it isn’t giving up on change. It’s dropping the verdict about your worth, so change can happen from somewhere steadier than “not good enough yet.”
Whatever you’re carrying (anxiety, low self-esteem, the aftermath of trauma, a stuck sense of direction), the starting point is the same: you don’t have to earn the right to feel okay about yourself before we begin.
You might be here because…
- The anxiety has become background noise you’ve stopped expecting to go away
- You function well and feel hollow, and can’t explain that to anyone
- Something happened, and you’re tired of managing around it
- You’re successful by every external measure and privately exhausted
- You’ve been in therapy before, and it helped but didn’t hold
You don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed to reach out. A consultation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
What working on this looks like
-
A free consultation
We talk about what’s going on and whether we’re the right fit. No cost, no obligation, and no pressure to book a session at the end of it. Your consent form and intake questionnaire arrive when you book, so the conversation isn’t spent on paperwork.
-
The first few sessions
We work out what’s actually loudest, and what you want to be different. Not a treatment plan recited at you. A shared sense of what we’re doing and why, which gets revisited rather than set once.
-
The ongoing work
Sessions are 60 minutes, usually weekly to start, moving to every other week as things steady. The pace is yours. Most people notice the shift first in how they talk to themselves, before anything about their circumstances changes.
Who you’d work with
Everyone on our team works with individual adults. They approach it differently, and that difference is worth reading about before you choose.

Common questions
How long will I need to come for?
It depends on what you’re working on and what you want from it. Some people come for six or eight sessions with a specific focus; others stay longer because the work keeps opening up. We’ll review it with you rather than leave it open-ended by default, and you’re free to stop whenever you want.
What if I don’t know what’s wrong?
That’s a common place to start, and it isn’t a problem. “Something is off and I can’t name it” is enough to begin with. Naming it is often the first part of the work.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book counselling in British Columbia without a doctor’s referral. Some extended health plans ask for one before they reimburse, so it’s worth checking yours.
Do you offer sessions online?
Yes. Sessions are available in person at our Burnaby office and online to anyone located in British Columbia.
