Groundwork: our executive function program

Structure, not more insight.

Twelve weeks of short accountability check-ins, a small group working on the same thing you are, and practical resources, delivered by our Incourage Institute interns under licensed oversight.

$450 paid in full, or three payments of $200. Reduced and pro bono places available. Groundwork is support, not counselling. More on what that means below.

Why insight isn’t the problem

If you’re here, you probably already know what you’re supposed to be doing. You’ve read the book, made the list, understood the pattern. The gap isn’t knowledge. It’s the distance between knowing and doing, every day, when nobody is watching.

Executive function changes through repetition and accountability far more than through understanding. That’s what Groundwork is built to supply: the part most therapy isn’t designed to do, and the part that’s hard to do alone.

What’s in it

Short accountability check-ins
Around ten minutes, by voice note or text, between sessions. What you committed to, what got in the way, one small adjustment for the next few days. Unglamorous, and the part that does the work.
A small group
Psychoeducation and process groups with people working on the same thing. This does something no one-to-one support can: it stops the problem feeling like a personal defect.
Practical resources
Tools, templates and strategies you keep, built around how your week actually runs rather than how it’s supposed to.
Licensed oversight
Your intern is supervised by our clinical team throughout, and anything that needs clinical attention is escalated to a registered clinician straight away.

A 12-week cycle is the base unit: long enough for repetition to matter, short enough that committing isn’t a big risk.

What Groundwork is not

It isn’t counselling. Check-ins and groups are structured support, not therapy sessions, and your intern isn’t acting as your counsellor inside the program. Plenty of people do both (Groundwork alongside counselling with one of our clinicians), and they’re booked and paid for separately. If what you actually need is therapy, say so and we’ll point you there instead.

It isn’t an assessment. We don’t diagnose ADHD or learning differences, and Groundwork isn’t a route to a diagnosis. Where a formal assessment would help, we’ll say so and refer you out for one.

It isn’t crisis support. Check-ins aren’t monitored around the clock and aren’t the place for anything urgent. If you’re in crisis, call or text 9-8-8, or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

What it costs

One 12-week cycle, two ways to pay.

  • Paid in full
One payment before the cycle starts
    $450 + tax
  • Payment plan
    Three monthly payments of $200
    $600 + tax
  • Reduced and pro bono places
Assessed by financial need, in a short private conversation
    Ask us

Paying up front saves $150. If that isn’t workable, the payment plan exists for exactly that reason and nobody thinks less of you for using it. This is a program about follow-through, not about who has $450 spare in January.

A cycle runs with a minimum of four people. A group of two isn’t a group. If a cycle doesn’t fill, we’ll tell you before any payment is taken and hold your place for the next one.

Groundwork is structured support rather than counselling, which means two things: it’s taxable, unlike our counselling sessions, and it generally isn’t claimable on extended health. Check your plan before assuming either way.

Common questions

Do I need an ADHD diagnosis?

No. Groundwork is built around executive function difficulties, diagnosed or not, and plenty of people in it have never been assessed.

Can I do this and counselling at the same time?

Yes, and many people do. They’re separate bookings with separate fees: your counsellor works on the emotional and relational layer, Groundwork works on the doing. If you’re already seeing someone here, we’ll make sure the two know about each other.

Who actually runs it?

Our Incourage Institute interns, graduate counselling students completing supervised practicum hours, with weekly individual supervision and monthly group supervision throughout. More about how that works →

What if the group doesn’t fill?

Then the cycle doesn’t run, and you don’t pay. We need at least four people for a group to do what a group does. With two, it’s just a meeting. If a cycle is short, we’ll tell you before taking any payment and hold your place for the next one.

What if I can’t commit to 12 weeks?

Then Groundwork probably isn’t the right starting point. The cycle length isn’t arbitrary: shorter than that and there isn’t enough repetition for anything to stick.

Is it for teens?

Yes, with more parent involvement in the planning. Tell us the age when you get in touch and we’ll say honestly whether the current cycle suits them.

Ready when you are.
